Conciergka
This sculpture is a reflection on a specific type of architecture, which is multiplied through the whole Russia and life around it. Social type of architecture, houses for everyone. Architecture of a “Sleeping Neighborhood”. “Sleeping” because in times of Communism, home for a worker was a place to rest. “Conciergka” is a central point of this sculpture, may be it’s even a monument to her, she owns it. Russian Conciergka is present in most of these concrete blocks and keeps watch over a house. Just like concierge. She lives there and decorates entrances.
Through this sculpture I tried to express qualities of this type of architecture, such are: massiveness, multiplication, non decorative by means of simple and fast construction, and an expression of a personal touch of Conciergka, which is contradicting to the whole construction but carries style from 80-s, refers to the Conciergka’s age.
