Dear advisers of (a,b,c),
With this letter I would like to introduce my project “The Institutional Touch”, in which I investigate the possibility to engage with an institution through physical touch.
On the (date) 2019 I climbed on the building of (a,b,c). Through this action, I intend to initiate a physical collaboration between the body of your institution - (a,b,c) building - and the troubled body of a non-european artist - my body.
For a non-european artist to be able to stay in the Netherlands as self-employed, it is required to provide an established network with the local art scene to convince the Dutch Ministry of Culture of its relevance to the Nation’s culture. The relevance is provided by written support of three art institutions funded by public money.
This work addresses the duality of precarity and determination. What makes me vulnerable and unstable also pushes me to act, to find my way in and on. Its an attempt to overwrite the conventional protocols and act through my own. For the first time the precarious body can take control and establish a connection through provoking a conversation.
I am interested to see how the physical collaboration I initiated could be developed further into a mutual collaboration. To discuss such possibility I would be very excited to have a meeting with you in the near future.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon, Sincerely yours,
Roman Tkachenko
